The circle

of Rodu:

A Fellowship of Slavic Native Faith and Dual-Faith Believers

Whether you’re of slavic heritage or not, the circle of rodu is for folks who are eager to resurrect, reinterpret, revive, and modify for where they are in the world today spiritual traditions that (a) are indigenously slavic; and (b) were at least disrupted, if not forcibly suppressed, by the introduction of christianity into slavic countries from the 6th to the 11th centuries common era.

we are not making claims that what we believe and practice is directly passed down in some unbroken chain from our slavic forebears since time immemorial. Rather, as with other contemporary polytheistic faiths gaining ground in the western world today, ours is a reconstructionist attempt at reimagining and rebuilding religious traditions from the remnants of the past, in this case the pre-Christian Slavic past. The legacies of that shared past survive in the languages, the landscapes, and the vibrant, living folk traditions of the Slavic peoples, such as among my serbian family’s.

the ethos of the circle of rodu is fourfold. we believe in:

(1) honoring the wisdom and legacy of ancestral traditions rooted in slavic lands.

(2) contextualizing our beliefs and practices in polytheism, animism, and ancestor reverence.

(3) answering the profound call to ecological stewardship.

(4) attuning to the cycles of nature in communal rituals that are conducted outdoors and are reflective of a pan-slavic spirit of cultural expression.

The Circle of Rodu is rooted in a pre-Christian Slavic worldview that unites kin, all Slavs, and penultimately all humans with All That Is.

The concept at the root of modern Rodnovery, “Rod” is both the name of a creator god and the Common Slavic term for “kin,” “ancestry.” As a divine essence, however, Rod is profoundly far-reaching. Through Rod I reach back into the past and connect with my Serbian ancestral traditions. But the essence of Rod permeates the present and inspires my lived Slavic Polytheistic practices and my sense of connection not just with the natural world and my Gods but with other Slavic peoples, with whom I partake of a collective identity and shared cultural heritage. Rod also holistically unites and extends into the future/all time the Gods and humans, humans and the natural world/animals, living humans and our beloved dead, and all levels of the Slavic World Tree (Drvo Svijeta). These are all yoked together in what I like to call “The Circle of Rodu.”
